VIPER CAGRISEMA LYOPHILISED POWDER

Available sizes: 10 mg

Two mechanisms in one preparation

CagriSema combines cagrilintide and semaglutide in a fixed ratio. Both are acylated, albumin-binding peptides dosed weekly, which is what makes co-formulation practical — two compounds with very different pharmacokinetics could not be combined this way.

Unlike tirzepatide or retatrutide, this is a combination of two molecules rather than a single multi-receptor one. That distinction matters experimentally: the ratio between components is adjustable in a combination and fixed by synthesis in a multi-agonist.

The additivity question

The premise is that non-competing pathways should combine. Amylin acts at calcitonin-receptor complexes in the area postrema; GLP-1 acts at its own receptor in the hypothalamus and hindbrain. There is no receptor-level reason for one to blunt the other.

The phase 3 results complicated that. REDEFINE-1 reported results below the pre-trial expectation set by phase 2, and the gap between the two is now itself a subject of analysis — covering trial design, dose escalation, the proportion of participants reaching target dose, and whether satiety mechanisms saturate rather than add.

For a research context this is the most interesting thing about the compound. A combination that underperforms its components' apparent sum is a more informative result than one that meets expectations.

The trial literature

  • REDEFINE-1 — phase 3 in obesity without type 2 diabetes.

  • REDEFINE-2 — phase 3 in obesity with type 2 diabetes.

  • REDEFINE-3 — cardiovascular outcomes.

  • Phase 2 combination studies, the data that set the original expectation.

Handling

Supplied as a lyophilised powder. Reconstitute gently and inspect for cloudiness or particulate before use — the amylin component makes aggregation the relevant stability concern. Store refrigerated and protected from light, and record the batch against its certificate of analysis.

Read alongside

Both components individually: Cagrilintide and Semaglutide. Tirzepatide and Retatrutide pursue multi-mechanism activity in single molecules instead, which is the field's main strategic alternative to co-formulation.

Documentation and verification

Certificates of Analysis are published for tested products and batches. A certificate is a batch-specific record: it reports what was measured, by which method, on a stated date, against a batch identifier. It is evidence about the sample analysed at the time of analysis, and it is silent on attributes it does not list and on what has happened to the material since.

The batch number is the field that connects the document to a physical vial. Where the identifier on a vial does not appear on a certificate, the certificate does not describe that vial, however thorough the analysis behind it was. Batch records can be searched directly, and the guides below explain what each field establishes and what it does not.
